BreadCrumbz
BreadCrumbz is a different kind of navigation application.
- Navigate-by-Pictures: Navigate your route using pictures instead of a map (there’s also a map, if you like).
- Users Create Routes: Easily record routes using your smartphone. Share them with your friends, share them with the world.
BreadCrumbz unique approach to navigation enables a new kind of user-created geo-content. Our aim is to develop a platform and a community where people create, store and share geo-content that is meaningful to them with their friends (“find my house”, “where I left my car at the airport”) or with the world (“best mountainbiking route in the area”, “find my cool shop”, “to your hospital’s department of surgery”, etc.).
Picture-based navigation is naturally better suited for pedestrians and cyclists than for car drivers, but works nicely in most scenarios.
A few other things that make BreadCrumbz interesting:
- Picture-based navigation enables creating routes that are simply not possible using maps or satellite images. For example, you can create routes leading to a specific door, a shop inside a shopping center or an object that’s hard to find. The possibilities are staggering.
- BreadCrumbz can complement the standard approach to computer-aided-navigation (automatically created routes from point A to point B) in places where a computerized map infrastructure is not available (such as developing countries or offroad).
- Continue navigating even if your GPS loses its signal. A unique algorithm allows you to continue navigating effectively even indoors or underground. BreadCrumbz even works surprisingly well with no location tracking service at all!
- Rich content makes your route special. Add info about points of interest along the way (including pictures, sounds and web links). It’s the perfect format for digital guided tours.
- Voice instructions let you navigate while driving or with your phone in your pocket.
- Internet access is great – but not required.
- Our flexible file format enables you to share routes with others using your phone or the web. It’s just like sharing an image or a music file. Third party applications can easily use and extend BreadCrumbz routes. Porting to other mobile platforms is straightforward.
