Skype meets Android

Last week Skype announced their new “thin” Android handset client, Skype lite (beta). The mobile version of Skype is available for over 100 other Java-based handsets including mobile phones for Nokia, Sony Erisson, Motorola and LG.

This application is only in Beta in the Android Market right now, but allows users to make local rate calls to any of your Skype contacts no matter where they are. In order to use the service all you need in an Internet connection, you don’t even have to have Wi-Fi or a 3G connection. Skype Beta also allows you send instant messages to your friends.

Basically you will be saving tons on international and long distance calls to mobile phones with this application. If you have not already given it a try, we suggest that you do so soon. Let us know what you think. Since it is in Beta, what do you think can be improved upon in a final version?

The G1 Developers Edition

Google has released a unique version of their T-Mobile G1, as an attempt of providing Android developers with more resources and Dev tools. This version of the G1 is priced at a pricey price tag of $399 and is only available to Android developers. You can simply sign up as a developer and automatically be eligible for this purchase.

The new developer edition G1 is aimed at providing coders and developers with head starts to their work. First off, this version of the T-mobile G1 does not require the T-mobile unlock code, which releases all restrictions on using it with other services. Secondly, it has a boot loader that does not restrict the device to officially signed firmware builds.

Currently available in Japan, Germany, India, France, Taiwan, Australia, Switzerland, Sweden, Canada, Finland, Hungary, Poland, Spain, the Netherlands, Austria, United States, and the UK.

Seems like a way to get you’re hand on a G1 cheaper afterall. Let us know what you think.

gMOTE Application for the T-Mobile G1.

After devouring 3 boxes of Domino’s large pepperoni pizzas-with extra cheese-you are left immobilized on Grandma’s old squeaky couch. Of course, the consequences of eating this much food in most cases is sleep. Unfortunately, along with the 3 boxes of pizza, you drank a whole box-o-joes, by yourself. Crap. The caffeine soon kicks in, and the yearning for a nice nap seems impossible. An idea sparks as you stare at you’re Dell PC across the room. “Maybe, just maybe, some music will help me sink into sleep,” you say. As much as you would love to reach over and open iTunes and play your favorite tunes, your fat bum is hibernating for the moment. Sigh. You sit there for a while. “How convenient would it be to control a computer from some sort of remote,” you think. Suddenly, DING!

You remember that you had downloaded an application from the G1 App store that controls your PC remotely when you were sitting on the hour long train from work. You pick up your G1 from the couch and quickly scroll to the gMOTE app. In a matter of minutes, you find and locate your favorite lullaby, play it, and slowly teleport to the world of dreams.
