Notifications are highly configurable and you can setup customized alerts for each category. Unfortunately, you can’t configure based on time of day just yet. This app would integrate wonderfully with Locale – imagine if the app knew not to disturb you while you were at your workplace and held off notifications until you left. There are already a wealth of categories or channels available with the app. Enough to suit all tastes. If you like being pinged about the latest events around your city, this is a fantastic G1 app and can also come in handly while traveling.

The time limit gets around any privacy concerns you might have with disclosing your current location. You can send Glympses via email, test message, or tweets. You can pick the list of people you share your location with dynamically – so there’s no need to create a profile, add friends, and that sort of thing. Your Glympses are also fully visible on a regular website browser, so your friends don’t need to be running the app for it to be useful. Overall, this is a very useful application with almost no downsides in terms of privacy concerns – a must-download for those with active social lives and frequent travelers.

The Sherpa application has a carousal interface that is easy to use and comes in handy when you need to execute multiple actions within the application. Selecting a specific restaurant or other establishment pulls up reviews, ratings, and other relevant information including hours of operation and the address. Mapping and directions are fast and accurate. This app can replace any number of other directory and restaurant applications on your G1. Sherpa is an advanced discovery and recommendation application for the T-Mobile G1. 

This G1 app shows a little radar at the bottom that allows you to quickly select which direction you want to point your G1 based on the density of interesting spots. You can also dig into each establishment from right within the app. For instance, with rental and properties for sale, you can tap on a specific property and the app will pull up the telephone number, area, and other information relevant to hunting for properties. Layar is available now in the Netherlands and is expected to roll out widely later during the summer. This is one app that really makes owning a G1 worthwhile. 

Tapping on a specific business will pull up the address and telephone number. You can dial the number with a single tap. You can also see ratings and reviews from the web. And photos of the establishment by tapping the Gallery button. It also has a mapping feature that uses Google Maps for directions. An excellent application and a must-have for any G1 owner who travels a lot or gets out into the city often. 

The autofill feature in the search field is a life-saver, enabling you to quickly select an ingredient with a few taps only. A nice additional touch is that the app offers instructions and the cocktail glass type (shot, sherry, cocktail glass, etc.) you’ll need to appreciate the drink. 

Wertago is an application that focusses exclusively on nightlife. It offers the ability to see real-time ratings, location-aware maps, where your friends are partying, and message and meet new people.   

This free application can be installed by selecting “Market” and searching for “Wertago”. The interface is easy-to-use and friendly. An excellent application to coordinate with friends and enjoy a good night out. 

LifeAware™ enables you to locate your friends and family members on your phone or the LifeAware™ website. It also allows you to set zones for specific friends and be alerted when friends enter or leave those zones. Be notified when any of your friends are within a specified distance of your current location or other pre-determined locations. Create and share location aware GeoLists. Updates to the lists by any friend are displayed to the entire “share group” of friends.

Using Android’s location APIs, LifeAware™ enables you to locate your friends and family in relation to your current position, search for places near you, create location aware GeoLists, and set up proximity alerts based on your friends’ locations.

What They Did

Dyno can be used for many purposes related to vehicle performance such as checking horsepower and determining your car’s engine condition. The energy consumption gage can be used to check your traffic conditions. Dyno can also be used for personal performances such as monitoring your bicycling performance, calculating the calories you burn during your exercise, and your race analysis.

How They Did It

Dyno uses the Android accelerometer to determine real-time horse power, energy consumption and is a better speedometer than the GPS alone can provide.

Google Maps API is used to display your current location in real-time and display location logged for each session.

The number and type of information shown such as display units, display color, etc. is fully configurable.

GolfPlay has been created as an answer to the high demand existing amongst golf lovers for reliable, accurate and free software. Its objective is to give support to all the real time necessities of a golf player during a game. GolfPlay uses GPS location and an online querying site where it is possible to access their personal game statistics as well as a social network to exchange impressions with other users about the sport that links them: golf.

The GPS allows GolfPlay to display where the player is over a Google Maps rotated image using real and 2D visualization of the course.

The Maps API with some additional information about the holes’ location are used to calculate statistics (distance, number of shots, score and hole data calculations) and display them on Google Charts, which are accessed via the web. These statistics and reports are what makes GolfPlay a useful training tool for players.
