With Softrace people around the world meet online to compete against each other in different physical activities. Races can take place in real time, just like traditional races. In addition, races may be constructed from already completed races allowing users to select their opponents and race on demand. Location varies, some races run along predefined tracks while others allow you to run anywhere in the world, in any direction. It is like a computer game, except that you are not controlling the player, you are the player.

Android’s Location API is a necessary feature to sample the user’s location at a certain frequency. The data is used to figure out how far the user has moved since the race started, making it possible to calculate his or her position in the race.

The Maps API allows users to see where they are or where they are going during the race. The Maps API is also used when races are revisited in the Diary.

The Softrace Stats feature is taking advantage of Android’s SQLite database where completed races are stored. The database is queried to reveal interesting statistics about the user’s performance.

This is the main goal of this training game, relying on a 3D RPG game, where the user will build an virtual hero, a series of small pieces of knowledge will be inserted in the flow of activities of the game, allowing the end user to take ownership of the knowledge need for the corporate roles, together with knowledge need for the game roles.

Applying the concept that : everyone want to learn, but just some want to be teach, we expect that by using a fantasy world and a mix of different knowledge, we can set an informal agreement, where the game pretend to don’t be educational, and the user pretend to be just playing.

But the truth is that both will know clearly what is being teach and what is being learned, or at least to what kind of knowledge the user was exposed to, by sending reports to the end user of the knowledge exposure, and generating gap analysis reports to the HR teams with the evolution of the percentage of knowledge transfer.

City Slikkers is a Pervasive Game (alternatively Location Based Game) which takes place in the real-existing city. It is designed to connect a large number of players throughout the world and change the way the surroundings are seen. The central idea behind the concept is to give people the opportunity to symbolically interfere with the everyday urban environment and come into contact with previously unknown people.

By introducing a metaphorical recapture of the city‘s elements (buildings, squares, streets), a virtual reorganization of the urban space leads to a new relationship between the players and their environment. In the sacred space of the game world, the city is under their control thus giving the players a feeling of superiority. As the playing community will always be a minority they hereby form some kind of elitist, secret society which is based on knowledge, but not financial or political power.

The interactions are only accessible through physical movement in the urban space and the use of a mobile device which acts as some kind of third eye. The players are always connected to a server and located using GPS technology. This allows an alternative view on the surrounding world and lets players manipulate objects to see and experience for others in realtime. The players in action form packs, hordes, and gangs. They contrast with the institutionalized and organized space and give it spontaneity and dynamics. To develop into the leading group, players have to team up so that they are able to combine resources and strength.

The game progress is visualized through a 3-dimensional sculpture in a publicly installed video-installation, so that the game also affects these people not involved directly by giving them a hint that the situation is somehow different. Secret societies which, metaphorically of course, are about to take over the private and public urban space. The game combines elements of strategy, role-playing, sports, social and tactical games, but in contrast to popular MMORPGs (Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Games), the outcome of the actions as well as the new connections made between people, will affect normal life as the everyday city is no longer the same due to the players‘ experience.
