This application is only in Beta in the Android Market right now, but allows users to make local rate calls to any of your Skype contacts no matter where they are. In order to use the service all you need in an Internet connection, you don’t even have to have Wi-Fi or a 3G connection. Skype Beta also allows you send instant messages to your friends.

Basically you will be saving tons on international and long distance calls to mobile phones with this application. If you have not already given it a try, we suggest that you do so soon. Let us know what you think. Since it is in Beta, what do you think can be improved upon in a final version?

Google has released a unique version of their T-Mobile G1, as an attempt of providing Android developers with more resources and Dev tools. This version of the G1 is priced at a pricey price tag of $399 and is only available to Android developers. You can simply sign up as a developer and automatically be eligible for this purchase.

The new developer edition G1 is aimed at providing coders and developers with head starts to their work. First off, this version of the T-mobile G1 does not require the T-mobile unlock code, which releases all restrictions on using it with other services. Secondly, it has a boot loader that does not restrict the device to officially signed firmware builds.

Currently available in Japan, Germany, India, France, Taiwan, Australia, Switzerland, Sweden, Canada, Finland, Hungary, Poland, Spain, the Netherlands, Austria, United States, and the UK.

Seems like a way to get you’re hand on a G1 cheaper afterall. Let us know what you think.

Want to know the graphics capability of your G1? So did quite a lot of people so thankfully, an intelligent developer and created the NeoCore application which displays what graphics power our G1’s are packing under the hood. I’d have to say I was pretty impressed with the presentation of the application. The music was great (I found out at the same time you did) and the video was extremely cool.

G1 Apps like this can give us insight into what we may see in the future when it comes to games for the G1. I know it’s a long shot but hopefully we’ll see graphics like so introduced into an online multiplayer game for the G1/Android, how sick would that be?

Hope you enjoy my theme music.

China just seems to be doing everything in their power to get an Android-powered headset as soon as possible. China deserves a pat on the back because they have managed to get one before the end of 2008. Meet Sciphone’s “Dream G2”, you’ve got to love the name it must have been so hard to come up with.

As the name implies, this phone looks like trash. This brick of a device will run on the Edge network, have a 4-megapixel camera with autofocus, 50mb internal memory with microSD card slot capable of up to 16GB, FM radio, Wi-Fi, QVGA 2.8” display, and “the most advanced software ever engineered.” By that statement we know that this handset will be running as they put it, “OS: Android ? Home Edition V1.0 OS support.” The most we would spend on this device is $10 or $15 just to see what it’s like.

By the looks of it, this phone won’t be making it to many Christmas lists this year, even though it is set to release on November 28th. From what we can see in the blurry photos there is no physical keyboard. If you guys need a phone that is capable of playing music your in luck, this handset also has an “Android Media Player ? v1.0 Media Player, supports MP3 and MIDI.” Bottom line is do not purchase this phone because they apparently do not even know what it is they are talking about.

With every new handset eventually there will be questions about streaming content from a source other than what is provided. One question I always manage to come across on forums is, “Can we use Orb on this phone?” The short answer is yes.

Over at Orb forums this question was brought up, and coincidentally a member of the Orb team made a comment on the situation. The users asked if there was ever going to be an Android Orb application in the Android Market, the answer being yes, there will be a way to use Orb services on Android-powered handsets this week. He even went on to say that there would eventually be a native application that will improve the use of Orb on Android. There has been no official press release about any of this so we do not know of any release date yet.

For those of you who do not yet know what Orb is, Orb has developed an award winning service that combines the use of an internet media portal and a proprietary software application. Orb leverages the best in already available technology (hi-speed broadband, Wi-Fi, wireless internet access and sophisticated portable devices) to provide a brand new way for people to connect with their digital media in the manner “how, when and where” they most desire. In short, Orb provides the ability to “MyCast”. MyCasting gives the user instant access to photos, music, videos, live television, and other digital content on their home PC at anytime and from any internet-connected device, such as a mobile phone, PDA or laptop. MyCasting is media anywhere.

Orb is based on an elegant, robust and scalable architecture and is the first of its kind to allow consumers mobile access to all of their digital media. Orb’s software architecture leverages the best features of today’s popular standards while abiding by current digital rights management solutions. The Orb embedded Solution is a set of software platform capabilities which the consumer electronics device manufacturer can port and integrate in its devices to differentiate its connected product lines, and build media and services management applications, rapidly, efficiently.

Androidboy brings mobile emulators to the Android only days after launch. This is perfect for those who cannot put old video games to rest. As of right now it is has 10 pre-loaded games for you to try, none of which are ones that you will probably recognize.

Androidboy not only supports games for the original Game Boy, Game Boy Pocket and Game Boy Color. Androidboy is now available for download from Android Market for free, we don’t suspect it will ever be a paid application be cause of the nature of the application. We have been waiting for just such an emulator to see just how powerful the G1 really is. Go ahead and break out that old Pokemon, Kirby’s Dreamland or Super Mario Land ROM and download it directly to your memory card.

The bottons are actually not very user friendly being all the way in the corners of the screen, but as every first emulator on a platform, it will only get better with time. Android is passing all of the milestones that the iPhone has but way earlier on. This is another application that proves Google is not regulating the applications that are in the Android Market, the fact that it made it all the way to the android Market speaks volumes. Android is one step ahead of Apples iPhone with this release. Do you think we will see a Playstation emulator soon?

Opera Mini is a well-known mobile Web browser. This is the first version of Opera browser that runs on Google’s Android open mobile development platform.

The Opera Mini browser renders web pages that have been transcoded to the binary OBML format, meaning much smaller downloads and a faster browsing experience on mobiles, than would be provided by other browsers. The Android WebKit-based browser component has a switch in the public API allowing the use of a transcoding proxy that transcodes web pages to a simpler form of HTML. Whether this is as small and fast as Opera Mini’s OBML remains to be seen.

Known issues:
* Small painting issues
* The Back command isn’t yet mapped to the device back button
